This small back garden in Norwich had a steep rise to a grassy area but was cramped and had no real seating area. We dug out some of the soil to create space for a bike store and built a retaining wall of railway sleepers. We replaced the grass with an attractive sandstone circular patio to provide space for a table and chairs. A small raised bed now surrounds the patio and is planted up with cottage garden plants and grasses for screening. A covered bike store was built to house the family's bikes and free up space at the side of the house. As the raised patio looked down on to the bike store, we added a green roof to further increase the available planting space. The original rickety steps up to the top of the garden were replaced with beautiful ones made from reclaimed floor bricks and paments.
