Heidi’s Wildlife Garden, Newton Flotman

Heidi's garden used to be more wildlife-friendly than Heidi-friendly!

Our aim was to create a space that remained rich in habitat and biodiversity, while also becoming a practical and joyful garden for Heidi to enjoy every day.

We reconfigured the layout to improve wheelchair accessibility, carefully redesigning paths and surfaces for ease of movement. The wildlife pond was moved and enlarged to become a central feature, offering both visual delight and a home for frogs, dragonflies, and birds.

Raised beds were built at the perfect height for Heidi to reach comfortably, making gardening easier and more enjoyable. The pergola was relocated to a sunny corner, creating a peaceful seating spot to relax and admire the view across the pond.

The existing paving was lifted and relaid over a weed-suppressant membrane, with strong pointing to reduce weed growth and keep maintenance simple.

This garden is now a true sanctuary—wildlife-friendly, wheelchair-friendly, and full of life.
